The fan in my PSU recently stopped working and last weekend I replaced it with a "whisper quiet" unit from a local electronics store. Quiet it ain't and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner! Whilst the fan achieves a very good throughput of air I am already getting pissed off at the noise level. I also have another similar fan adajcent to the CPU heatsink so the combined noise is getting to be a problem.
I would like your opinions on what I can reasonably get away with as regards using quieter fans in my PC. I know that the "evercool" range of fans are quiet but having used one before they do not shift a lot of air - maybe only half of what my present fans move.
The heat-producing parts of my PC are....
AMD Athlon CPU 900 MHZ
2 x 7200rpm IDE hard drives
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP card
40X CD Burner
I was thinking of installing an evercool fan in the PSU and also one in the back of the case adjacent to the CPU fan. I could also install a tray fan if necessary in one of the expansions slots at the back of the machine. This combination probably would be a lot quieter but is it safe?
Currently my CPU runs at around 35 degrees C but I have no information on the temperature of the PSU.
Thanks,
Alan
