ok. tomorrow i will be intalling xp to a new 40g hd.

My question is what do i have to do w/ my current hd. I;m gonna use the old drive for pictures, music, etc. the thing is that it has xp already install it on it, so what i need to do? Format old drive so everything will be erased before i intall the new hd or do i need to install the new hd alone, install xp then plugthe old drive w/xp and let the fresh xp install handle it?

Here's what I'd do.

1) pull the old drive out, throw the new one in and do the install there.
2) throw the old drive in as a non-boot drive and just copy all the files you want to the new drive.
3) format the old drive
4) copy back what ever you want to the old drive
