How do I restore the boot menu?

I have win98 and winXP on my machine, but win98 is giving me a lot of trouble now and want to reinstall it, but I'm afraid that the win98 installation will overwrite the boot record so I won't be able to boot winXP.

There's a safe way to restore the menu after win98 overwirtes it?

before the re-install save your boot.ini to a floppy and then reinstall 98 and after that replace the boot.ini on your hdd with the one onb the floppy. I think that should work, but im not 100% sure

hmm you can also try this. After the install of 98 boot with the xp cd and go into the recovery console and from there use the commands fix mbr and fix boot
