I have not figured out how to install tar. files in linux yet.
I would like to install the mplayer in suse 9.3 I have downloaded the mplayer and the essential codec for it. Any help would be great.

I am not that familiar with the terminal commands in linux at all.

I would start with
tar -xvf your_file_name.tar
which will extract the content in the current directory. From then read the INSTALL/README file since instructions depend on many things (version, permissions, system, ...)

Are you using a GUI w/ SuSE or are you trying to use command line only? If you are indeed using a GUI you could install it probably rather simple via YaST. If you are indeed trying to keep command line only then I would go with what ejn74 said.

I do not now enough to use the command line. I use the GUI. So Yast will install it?

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
