How do I find the root of a drive?

stupid question

okay, i know this is probably a stupid question but i need to know the answer to it, so if someone could please help me out. i need to know how to get to the "root" of one of my hard drives. i need to get a text file from there but i don't know what the "root" of the drive is or how to get to it. so can someone help me out, please? thanks in advance!

The root of the C: drive is C:\

why do you call a parkway a parkway if you drive on and a driveway a driveway if you park on it?
