How do I connect to Linux from Windows

I want to know how do I connect to a linux box (Ubuntu) from Windows XP? It keeps asking for a user name and password and I tried a guest login, my system's login, and the computer's login and have had no luck. Thanks in advance.

How are you connecting? SSH? Samba (i.e. file shares)?

The login should be the your account on the Ubuntu machine, if everything is set up correctly.

Yes, it is Samba (that is what it says on Ubuntu)
Do I need an extra add-on for windows to do the login or something? I can't login what so ever.
