How can I remove orphan programs?

I have a number of "orphan" programs listed on my add-remove program list. These are references to programs that are no longer on my computer, and when I try to remove them in the add-remove programs listing, I just get a message telling me the system cannot find them (Duh!).

How can I get rid of the notations to these items?

About the "digging in the registry" advice... backup everything first , or just know what your doing...

If you decide to dig in the registry, look at subkeys of

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

heh, I knew someone would know the reg key to go digging under

Way cool, folks! That works fine. Thanks for the help.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
