Speed up Diskcache TOP
Open Regedit
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/ControlSession/ Manager/MemoryManagement/IoPageLockLimit];
Modify the value in Hex depending on the size of your RAM
RAM: modified value(Hex)
64M: 1000;
128M: 4000;
256M: 10000;
512M or more: 40000.
Reboot.

I think that the path( above) to the file in regedit might be broken. Dosen't seem to exist.

Anywayz, If anyone's got any bright valid ideas on how to maximize my p4 2.4 512MB ram machine, please feel free to share it.

Whoops!

Just noticed after my last post that I copied more than I should have when referring to the broken path in :

System Performance Tweaks

Speed up Diskcache TOP
Open Regedit
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/ControlSession/ Manager/MemoryManagement/IoPageLockLimit];
Modify the value in Hex depending on the size of your RAM
RAM: modified value(Hex)
64M: 1000;
128M: 4000;
256M: 10000;
512M or more: 40000.
Reboot.

Sorry about that.

  • Don't do even one tweak unless you understand exactly what it does, how it effects your system, potential negative implications, and how to undo it if necessary
  • Don't do more than one or two tweaks at a time. See how it (they) effects your system and make sure everything is okay before doing another
  • Ditto disabling services
  • Always ALWAYS create a restore point before performing tweaks or making registry changes
  • You should know that XP works pretty nicely right "out of the box". Sometimes less is more
  • Enjoy :)
    [/list=a]

Don't know if the tweak you are referring to, will be of any use, however the correct registry path is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
note that there is a slash behind Control, not after Session.

And welcome to ntfs.org :D
