Guys, something to keep in mind -

There seems to be an increase in attacking eachothers posts and the validity behind the accuracy of how helpful they can be of late. This is a user community where we are all here to help eachother out, and you can't simply be right all the time. All our members, myself included, have good intentions when they post suggestions and can't always be accurate. Let's try to be a bit more constructive with our replies and supportive of eachother. I think the suggestion to perhaps give reasoning why not to listen to someone or why someone is wrong would be a bit more appropriate.

This forum is as successful as it is due to the members that are within it. Can't we all just get along?

This thread has served its purpose and I'm closing it - please just keep this in mind going forward :)

The PC still crashes at times. Also, I just noticed that my friends list and blacklist in MailWasher Pro just disappeared. And I can't seem to update the latest definition file of Ad-Aware Personal.

Weird things happening. :(

I just hope some malware didn't go into my backup drive. I still have to scan that. Maybe I'll do it now.
 
rename hijack this to something else and run it.


Get AVG rootkit and Anti-Spyware Free.


Install Comodo firewall and dump any other firewall.

Getting AVG RootKit and Anti-Spyware.

I don't have any sort of software firewall. All I got one is through my router, I think.
 
Have you scanned to see if the hard drive is dying (getting bad sectors)? Run chkdsk.

Manual steps to run Chkdsk from My Computer or Windows Explorer

1. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
2. Click Properties, and then click Tools.
3. Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
4. To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk.

These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?

Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

I'll do that shortly.

I really don't think my PC is infected with any malware. Maybe it's some hardware problem. Virus scan was fine. HijackThis doesn't reveal anything. Spyware scan (all they find is cookies but they're not that harmful right?) was fine as well.

I was just going to mention that maybe your HD is going the way of the dodobird.

At first I was going to say that I saw Nvidia and ATI drivers listed together, but now that your are mentioning that stuff is dissappearing..............

Maybe just yank that HD altogether from the tower and install/reformat/install OS on another HD and plug this one in as a slave and remove the stuff you need from it.

Crashing, do you mean blue Screen or locking up?

The ATI stuff was already there. I don't think I ever installed it. By crashing I mean it's freezing. The cursor doesn't move.

I think my PC is just dieing. It's like 5 years old. Pretty sure it's related to HD or the processor.

I had a similar problem with my dad's laptop once. Had the warranty so they replaced the whole motherboard. That fixed it.

I'll be formatting in the upcoming week. I've already backed up all my stuff. It's just a matter of getting some time.
 
Just ran the Disk Check. Everything seemed fine. It said 'Disk Check Complete'. I didn't get any of the 'exit codes' that are stated on Microsoft's website. Am I supposed to get those in the end?

It was still crashing and I seriously don't know what was wrong with it. I had enough. So I just used the Sony VAIO Recovery Wizard that came with it and it's back to factory defaults now. :p

Nope. Odd eh. :\

I scanned my computer so many times and no malware was found. I just hope the malware didn't get into the backup hard drive? I've yet to scan that. Because I'll be transferring some docs to my MacBook. Hope it doesn't screw it up?

I'm so paranoid.
