Hey guys, I have a HiJackThis log of a friends computer, and I was wondering if you could help me figure out what to delete, I was overwhelmed with weird sounding registry things etc.

I was also wondering if anybody knew how to fix his display issue. He has a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, with a centrino processor, windows xp, and the intel graphics chip. I have already updated the driver and it still doesn't work right. The main thing is that the internet browsers don't show web pages correctly, the colors and borders aren't what they should be.

Any help?

they look iffy to me but like i say they could be legit programs

Avira is a anitivirus program. I don't see why he would need with having norton as well. Just stating that running two av's is not a good choice. I would get rid of norton (probably have to reformat to clean it all out) and anti vira and go with the free version of AVG.

To fix the display, you can go into the display settings and set them to default. If that doesn't work; it could mean that the display is going bad. How old is the laptop?

2-3 years old. I mean I was thinking maybe he screwed up his onboard graphics, because I have already messed with the settings and tried all the resolutions, etc.

You may want to keep:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Apoint] C:\Program Files\Apoint\Apoint.exe

I believe it has to do with a touchpad. Unless of course this isn't a laptop. It looks like he has alot of HP services, does he have a HP device? If not its most likely part of the pre-loaded BS and can be removed. I would also do away with on the the antivirus apps like previously mentioned.

Thanks guys!
so, what are the 100% certain unnecessary items that I can remove via hijackthis.

Looks like it's a dell with Hp devices, mike. The more I look at that more I think a reformat is in order.

Vanq, you could try to uninstall the graphics driver and reinstall it. If that doesn't help, then the display is cooked.

Having two anti-viruses is a bad idea. Get rid of norton

Avira is fine and a very good Anti-virus.

un install the old java and update to the newest

There is a Vundo Infection on this PC, located %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\VTURQ.DLL which is a pain. it says missing but its still there.

Super antispyware is a awesome program that will remove it. It is my 1st choice
http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispyware.html

but i agree with Johnny, a reformat would be a wise choice :)

Thanks guys, I'll try to have him remove Norton (which i already told him to), and ill remove the suggestions, but A reformat is out of the question.

Thanks again!

If you have a monitor that you can hook the laptop upto it might help determine if it is screen that is the problem.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(
