ok. installed slackware and im really a newbie to linux. used it here and there, but I reformated and have no plans on reinstalling windows so im gonna need some help guys...

first. my mouse scroll doesnt work...and its starting to piss me off.

second. how would I start going about updating. is there a windows update for linux. or do I have to do it all manually.

any help would be appriciated

(sorry about the abundance of question marks...;) )

the mouse wheel is easy. What kind of mouse? Does it have nav buttons too?

its a two button mouse with a scroll. usb too. this computer only has one usb port and my keyboard has a hub built in. so the mouse routes through the keyboard. dont think that make a difference though

hmm, might, adjust your XF86Config mouse section to:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"

# On platforms where PnP mouse detection is supported the following
# protocol setting can be used when using a newer PnP mouse:

# Option "Protocol" "Auto"

# The available mouse protocols types that you can set below are:
# Auto BusMouse GlidePoint GlidePointPS/2 IntelliMouse IMPS/2
# Logitech Microsoft MMHitTab MMSeries Mouseman MouseManPlusPS/2
# MouseSystems NetMousePS/2 NetScrollPS/2 OSMouse PS/2 SysMouse
# ThinkingMouse ThinkingMousePS/2 Xqueue
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

then restart X

but...
a little help with the updating?
how can I go about updating programs and the os and sys files and what not...?

The Mouse...

For slackware there's no auto updated. Some (Xandros, redhat..) have updaters but slackware comes with mostly recent software. I would suggest installing dropline gnome (www.dropline.net) as it includes alot of tools and a pretty nice adaptation of Gnome for slackware. After that I would suggest installing emerge\portage. If you don't know what that is go to the gentoo website (www.gentoo.org) and read up on it, it's a great program that makes installing EVERYTHING easier :) You can find instructions on how to install it here http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=28559

After that emerge wine, learn to use that, and you'll be pretty much set up :)

And welcome to slackware :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
