How can I do in order to make num lock on at welcome screen.

Surley there must be a way of doing this without using the {Sendkeys} function or editing the registry?

Why does XP Home default to NUM LOCK off?

If your password starts with a number this can cause problems.

i agree with xsk8zerox, my BIOS has a "NumLock after boot" option.

This is not a BIOS problem as XP Home sets the Num Lock key to off if it's on already as the system boots.

I mean, mine stays on and I don't remember doing anything funky in XP to get it that way, but, it's been a while since I installed....

heres a regfile that might work for you...
Use NumLock.reg if your using a non microsoft keyboard and numlock2.reg if you are using a microsoft keyboard...

Microsoft says "The status of the NUM LOCK key is specific for each user, and by default, it is disabled."

This means that when you hit the log-on screen in XP the Num Lock key light should be off. There are two ways to change this behaviour, one involves changing a registry value to 2 (does not work) the other involves running a small script from the start-up folder using the VB {SENDKEYS} function.

The above fixes to me don't make sense. I would have thought that an admin user should be able to set this somewhere in control pannel. You can do this in 2000 but seemingly not in XP.

Even Powertoys for XP does not seem to be able to set the Num Lock default behaviour.

Any ideas?

thank you

Thank you for your help, the hex key help.:)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
