This is really strange. I installed a new anti virus program on two of my home computers and when I rebooted, all of the sudden I can't see any of the other computers on my wireless network. This happened to both PC's. Doing the logical thing, I uninstalled the anti-virus software, but the problem persists. I know that it's not a problem with my adapters or the router since I can still connect to the internet through the router, I just can't see the other machines. I checked all of the workgroup settings and nothing has changed. When I look at the workgroup on the network I can see each machine locally but not the other machine. I'm totally baffled.

Are your network cards getting IP addresses?

If the computers can access the internet they are more than likely getting IP addresses, and the NIC's are fine. What it really sounds like is the AV package you installed changed your windows firewall settings. If local network access isnt enabled in the windows firewall you wont be able to see or access the local computers.

Cipher ... I think what Geffy was getting at is that he MAY be asking the question from another computer outside his network...

... back to our regularly scheduled tech support ...

edited... I just hate when people assume something without asking a direct question first...

sorry, woke up on the wrong side of the bed I guess...

I shoulda mentioned that I'm running Win2000, so no windows firewall settings to change.

Which AV is it?

It's Avira AntiVir. I was bitching to a friend about paying for updates to my McAfee and he recommended it - I checked it out and it seemed okay - until it took my network down.

To answer Geffy's question - yeah I'm getting IP addresses.

check to see if NetBIOS over TCPIP is enabled

Problem solved. Turns out the driver on one of my adapters got corrupted somehow. It showed that it was okay when I pulled it up, but it wasn't detecting the network. I ended up updating both drivers and magically both PCs reappeared on my network.

Awesome, glad everything is working now.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
