HELP!!! Missing CD Rom and DVD

For some strange reason both my CD and DVD drives have suddenly disappeared. They are not showing in My Computer and just the DVD is showing in Device Manager. However, neither are working. They have been working perfectly since I installed XP in October. The only thing I have done today with my computer is run the Live Update from Norton Anti Virus. Anyone had a similiar problem and got any ideas?

AMD Athlon 1400 DDR
512 DDR RAM
Pioneer DVD
TEAC CDR drive
Nvidia GeForce 2 MX400 64Mb
Creative Soundblaster 1024 soundcard

I know I can use System Restore but I would rather find out what has caused it first if possible

Problem solved. It was the bios and an update fixed the problem.
