i went through the installation guide which is enable nvidia

"""Go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers and check the box to enable the restricted drivers for your NVIDIA card if the option is provided."""

but when i enabled it something like "broken error" appeared then there was a download of 5mins then the result after that was not all changes appied and still the nvidia is not in use.

"""The Hardware Drivers tool may not work properly on machines that have previously used third party tools like 'Envy' or manual installation to install previous drivers. You should remove those drivers before attempting to install using the built in tool."""

do i have to remove all video device so that i can reinstall all?

as it says use the broken filter to find the bad package and either uninstall it and reinstall it and try to install nvidia drivers, if that doesnt work just uninstall the bad package and install the nvidia drivers then reinstall the bad package

the broken is xserver-xorg-input-all but i cant remove in nor reinstall it..
it says about parse error on input vmouse. but when i install vmouse there is an error too..

i tried uninstalling nvidia glx new but same error cant successfully remove..
it cant continue.

post your apt sources file

also try sudo apt-get check -f or is it sudo apt-get -f - might even just be sudo apt-get check (i dont use ubuntu so doing this from mem when i tried it:))

this should try and fix deps or you could try dpkg --purge , and then try to reinstall it, it should pick up the dependencie and install it

i would say to a dist upgrade to take you up to 8.04

I had problems with the nvidia drivers on my PC as well with ubuntu. I disabled the open hardware drivers, checked for updates, installed them, and enabled the drivers again. rebooted and problem was solved.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
