Hd shows greater data size

Hi
i have a 5 GB partition for winxp. The data in it sizes 2.5 GB.when i chk through properties including all the hidden files.
BUt the Partiton size shows that its filled with 4.8GB of data.
Whts the problem and where have this free size gone.
can anyone help?

look to see how much space is being reserved by system restore and by the recycle bin... if I was you and you have sufficient space on the other drives just disable restore and recycle on the partition with winxp...

see if that resuces SOME space...

then we'll keep tweaking to get the rest back

if that doesnt work u can use partition magic and click on recalim lost space

Is this a dual-boot system?

Yes its a dual boot system with win98 and xp but the xp partition is not the boot partition.
