i just reinstalled windows (updates too) and noticed that on some pages, java isn't working. i visited msn.com and tweak3d.net and both contained animated areas (advertisements) that were 'x'ed out.

how can i get these to show up again? it's bugging me!

i've already:

1) deleted cache
2) deleted cookies
3) installed microsoft java virtual machine
4) checked internet settings

here are some pics...

Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and open HOSTS file with notepad and find image.com.com to remove any gamespot problem and MSN for any msn problem and so on, u gotta use the find option.

It was reported back that the person first backed up the file then deleted it with no ill effect & the red x problem was gone.

no, i have no ad blocking/filtering software running.

when i click the links above, i get 'page cannot be found' on both.

this only seems to be happening on a few pages.....msn, tweak3d and maybe some others. but most pages load fine.

can't figure this one out, and it's bugging the crap outta me! ;)

thnx for the suggestions hipster...gonna try 'em now.

**just tried editing the hosts file and it didn't work. :(

forced refresh had zero effect.

i even uninstalled xp sp1 and reinstalled it. still having problem.

this is really beginning to irritate me. i'm thinking of formatting again....ugghhh.

Go for it, try and slipstream your XP CD though it can fix a fair few problems

Is it allowed in Set Program Settings and Defaults???

(that thing that was introduced with SP1)

I think it disabled the VM by default. Just give it a check

No I mean like updating your WinXP CD, so that it installs SP1 when you install XP

hipster, u were sorta right.

when i installed kazaa lite, the file 'hosts' in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc was replaced.

i deleted that file and bam! everything works.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction. ;)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
