Can anyone tell me how to reformat the hard drive so i can reinstall windows 98 on another computer.I tried right clicking on my computer and doing that format but it wouldnt work. Is there some other way to do this so it wont create a 7mb parition?

use a 98 boot disk. just insert the disk then turn on your pc and type -

"format c:"

then follow the pon screen intructions

its a hewlett packard recovery cd though it wont work like that, isnt there anyway to do it without a cd?

C comand prompt wont work either, says the volume is locked and it cant be locked

you cannot format HDD in WINDOWS !

Mr Dead said right .

1)"Build" a boot disk
2) Restart PC and set to start from floppy ( from BIOS )
3) A:/C:
4) C:/format C:

Well, more specifically you can't format the boot drive from within Windows, but you can format other partitions from within the GUI.

Anyway, you can go to http://www.bootdisk.com and download a 98 boot disk and follow the above instructions. Good luck.;)
