Hard Drive "Quiet" All of a Sudden?

I recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro, and when I used to scan my computer for spyware w/ ad-aware, it would go very zippy, and I could hear my harddrive grinding. Now, my harddrive barely purrs, but it takes SO MUCH LONGER to scan! What do I do?

have you activated that quiet mode thing that some HD's have
if its activated, it takes longer to seek.

i think you cna only activate it via drive managers but im not sure about it entirly
