Hi,

Something pretty strange is happening to my laptop.
It has a pretty small HD that is devided in two partions: Primary 2.5 Gb for system, secondary 6,x Gb for appz, data and other stuff.

I tried to install SP1 today, but I all of the sudden I lacked the free space needed... I was pretty surprised coz My Docs folder is located on D: and I cleaned up my system few days ago.

Apparently I had only 189 Mb left on my HD.

I did this:

* I disabled System Restore (gained 7 Mb although 200 was reserved)
* I checked the paging file location (D:)
* I disabled Hibernation (Gained 197 Mb)
* I moved Temporary Internet files from C: to D:
* I uninstalled unnecessary junk.
* I lowered the space reserved for recycle bin.
* Performed a chkdsk

But here it is: when I add the sizes of Program Files, Windows, Documents and Settings, hiberf*.sys, and the protected system folders I get 1.8 - 1.9 Gb...

Where are the other 500 - 600 Mb? Am I overlooking something here?
Is there a way to store the hibernation file in a specified location? Like D: and not C:?

If you have disabled Hibernation then you shouldn't have hiberf*.sys on your hard drive -
XP now & again wont clean up after itself
try & delete the hiberf*.sys if its being used you'll get an error

Not to sure but this might be were the missing disk space is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

If you want to create more space, these items I can delete safely

HotFix Uninstall files
The contents of but not the folders
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
C:\WINDOWS\Help
C:\WINDOWS\Help\Tours
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386

Folders & Files except the Binaries folder & Files

C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries

C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR
DO NOT delete the Binaries folder & Files
C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries

Excessive Fonts
C:\WINDOWS\Fonts

at your own, always create backups

;) :p

If your files system is ntfs, 12% of your drive is reserved for the master file table.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
