im currently building my new computer, and was wondering about hdd.

is Hitachi a good make?
is the cache size important? ive came acrss 2mb and 8mb - im guessing 8 is better.

hitachi and ibm merged a year or so ago. good company with fast drives. but everyone has their picks and pans so just trust that any harddrive you buy has a chance of crashing. for benchmarks and comparisons, go to www.storagereview.com and look at their 'performance database'.

and 8mb is marginally better. :)

Have just bought the Hitachi Deskstar 120 Gb, having seen reviews of all current makes.
Has fastest read/write speeds .
Used with "Tweak XP " cache tweak settings ...reads at 90Mb per sec.,and that is only the 2 Mb cache model.
Old SATA Maxtor 120 Gb drive read @65 Mb per sec !

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
