You've gotta love the Russians...
A READER HAS sent us some photographs of a two-disk Half Life 2 distribution which he says is on the shelves of a Russian trader in Novosibirsk.

The game has been translated into Russian, and according to our reader, this is a copy taken from Valve's web site and "translated and compiled by the chaps out there".

He says that the game itself is quite playable, although there are some plot inconsistencies in places.

Ah well, You just know that version is gonna be crap anyway.

I don't know why people bother playing pre-retail versions of games. I can hardly keep up with finishing the games I already have. If this is true, then it'll eventually make it's way to the internet and be spread over BT or Edonkey.

It's already been compiled and shared...

Typical, just like Halo... patience is in short supply these days... either that, or we have a lot of bored kiddies at home...

Compiled and shared? Where is it? That is not the FULL version of HL2. People were already able to compile it months ago after the source was originally leaked. People had HL1 levels running on the HL2 engine months ago. What was leaked ... was not the full game. It didn't contain the textures, levels, or sounds. What was leaked was a .rar file full of .cpp files. I'm not surprised that they'd actually release that on Russian streets. They've sold incomplete versions of SoF2 and Hitman 2 in the past. Keyword being incomplete ... and not final.

It's got a lot of sounds and about nine to fifteen maps (depending on who put it together). I've seen it, and it's buggy as crap, with falling out of maps, bad AI, and what have you, but it works. It's anything but a real game at the stage it was leaked...I do want to buy the real deal when it comes out, though.

The shaders are the only things that set the graphics engine apart, so the gameplay better be pretty strong.

If they have the engine, they could always flesh it out with their own maps and sounds, not necesarilly the official map and sounds. I'm looking forward to the game ... but what I'm more excited about is the mods that will come out after the game has been released.

Benny can translate it back to English mthen we're sorted :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
