Can you have both the classic and WMP 9 on the same system or does it screw up WMP 9 when you install the classic version?

X-Chat ~ http://xchat.org
Multi-platform, open source IRC client, compiles on most platforms including Mac OSX, Linux, FreeBSD and Windows.

B1tchX ~ http://b1tchx.org ( replace the 1 with an i )
As above, Multi-platform open source client, but command line based.

CoolPlayer ~ http://coolplayer.sourceforge.net
Very small and fast media player with freeform Skins, Simple User Interface, Advanced Playlist editor, Internet streaming, ID3 Multitagger, File Renamer, Fast mp3->wav converter, MAD mpeg engine, OGG Vorbis support, Winamp input plugins support, Smallest executable programmed in blazing fast 'C', and more.

Mozilla / FireBird / ThunderBird ~ http://mozilla.org/

I'm sure most people know what these are by now :)

Fwink ~ http://lundie.ca/fwink/
WebCam Software for taking shots at specific intervals and uploading to an FTP/Website.

FileZilla ~ http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/
Quite simply (in my opinion) the best FTP client available, I switched from using CuteFTP Pro to using this as my main client, many friends have also switched to this too.
(note: not related to the Mozilla project in any way)

Open Office ~ http://www.openoffice.org/
Like Microsoft Office, but free. Personally I wouldn't say that it could completely replace my copy of Office XP, but it's improving all the time, and I'd definately use it if I hadn't got Office XP.

Miranda-IM ~ http://www.miranda-im.org/
Instant Messenger supporting multiple protocols such as MSN, AiM and ICQ plus more.

Memory and CPU Observer ~ http://beam.to/mco
Nice and simple program that monitors CPU usage, Memory usage, Hard disk space, MBM stats and Network info.

SSH Secure Shell ~ http://ssh.com
SSH Client.

X-Setup - Thousands of registry tweaks with a good-size community making new plugins all the time. Very professional!

Avant Browser - Afraid to jump into something besides Internet Explorer? Grab this--it adds functions to IE that you never thought possible.

Kazaa Lite Codec Pack - All the codecs you need (except LAME) for audio and video encoding and decoding. Speaking of which...

FlaskMPEG - Thought you couldn't encode high-quality, well-compressed DivX? Virtual Dub takes too many steps? Use this in conjuction with 2-Pass, DivX 3.11 encoding and you're l33t!

You can have both :)

Media Player Classic.. very cool. I'm sick of the spyware and crap with RealPlayer and MP9. Good ? can you run WMPC if you already have WMP9 installed. I don't think I want to uninstall WMP9 just because I think Gates has a self destruct button that will go off if you try deleted any of his stuff.

Is there a direct link for d/l for MPC. I couldn't find it at the above site.

I have WMP9 on mine with classic media player, it runs great - just uncheck all the file associations in wmp9 and check all them in classic media player to be your default.

I will point out that I have found that in order to do some streaming (like if it is in the webpage and not an external app) you still have to have real player, wmp9, and quicktime installed .. I don't like that about it, other than that it uses a lot less resources and starts faster than the others do ...

Media Player Classic is a standalone app. you dont even need to install it. Its pretty much the only media player I use...

Daemon Tools is great. Dirkey is awesome too

This freeware thread keeps on popping up and the same software are usually listed over and over again. Oh well, guess there's no harm in listing my freeware site once again:
http://decentdownloads.freeservers.com
Other than incredimail and opera which are adware, the rest are generally my favourite freeware.

actually, to use the streaming capability of MPC you don't have to install quicktime or real.... you just need the dll's ... that's what Real and Quicktime Alternative for... they install all the necessary dll's, registry, and plugins...

link to media player classic ..... scroll down till you find the category Media Player Classic

download the latest version
win2k or winxp user: mpc2kxpXXXX.zip
win98 or winME (hahaha) user: mpc98meXXXX.zip

p/s: i loath WMP9 so much that i disabled it. just go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Program -> Set Program Access and Defaults... then under "Choose default media player", uncheck the "Enable Access to this program" check box

a while ago, someone turned me on to a volume controll in the tray...left click it to raise, right click to lower

for one handed use on my laptop, this was nice

I can't seem to remember where I got it if anyone has an idea

Before I ran the prog I uninstalled Real Player and ran the prog, I tried to play a real media file, it came up with an error saying "in order to run real media files you need to have real player installed"

It also won't play Quicktime files without quicktime installed, I have a couple of quicktime files and it won't play any of those ..
