Grand Prix 4 Woes

I have a brand new computer, pentium 4, upgraded graphics card... I'm trying desperately to get Grand prix 4 to work properly. I cannot get the pedals to calibrate. I have re-routed the pedals to operate through the steering wheel buttons, 'not the easiest to manipulate', but it works. Lastly, the computer kicks out of the game without warning. Does any one have any solutions???
