So you always see ads about your computer not being secure because the information transferred online is saved on your computer. It is accepted that information can remain even after it is deleted but that's not my point here. I've heard about a company called EMS or EMC or ECM or ESM or something along those lines, but after thorough searching through Google, I came up with no information of the aledged archivers. It is said the building they operate from is in Lubbock, Texas. This is something I heard by word of mouth. So I can't verify anything about it or explain anything more.. So anyone know anything at all about this or if not as described, what is there?

nothing is 100% secure, the goverment can get into 99% of systems and do whatever the hell they like. they have special agreements with companies such as m$ which enables them to go in the back way ;)

Just sounds like something some weird person who is scared of everything would make up. Personally I dont think they would, And I really dont go anywhere on the net but google and osnn :p. I dont care that they MIGHT, but some people do

Perhaps it will be mentioned during this ...
Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005 -- Peter Jennings Reporting: No Place to Hide

Peter Jennings examines the government's effort to harness technology in the name of security, and the price we might pay if we fail to balance security and freedom in the digital age.
linky

that could get pretty bad.. you've got security sites that you can download sub7 and whatnot, if the government monitors every single person then everyone will be getting busted just for going to places they didn't even know had bad stuff on there.

I figure if your not doing anything wrong then why worry , sure there will be times they get the wrong guy but, when they get the right guy GREAT !!

First of all I havent read the article, but I imagine there would be some pretty hefty problems, legally about monitoring traffic across the internet, especially as a corporate entity. This is mainly due to the nature of the internet itself, there could be serious international ramifications of doing this as while you might have an agreement with your government regarding it, you are unlikely to get an agreement with every internet connected country, and it could be seen as infringing on another nationalities personal, private and even human rights by doing so.

thats my 2p anyway

I agree Geffy.. I was just about to bring up the human rights issue before I noticed you posted about it in your last line :)

What would be used I wonder? the right to live life as a free citizen?

Thank Bush and the Patriot and the DMCA Acts

I think you'll find that the law matters not at all within the halls of the NSA, CIA and the FBI, not to mention 20 other agencies that have various other names to conceal themselves against overt action from terrorists and the such.

But the point being is that the government has a cluster of computers, that all they do is monitor the internet, certain sites, words searched for. Programs used etc.. will generate red flags on this system, which will also generate the ip address that accessed those flags. And i have no doubt that every ISP comcast, verizon etc... provides or unknowingly provides the ISP=Name, address bio info of each person using there systems. So i doub they are looking at each and every computer, but what thy are doing is tracking and tagging these red flags and then they probably use statistical analysis to look more in depth at certain IP=people.

How do you think they catch peodophiles? they know which websites the nasty pics are on and they bait these fools to go there, furthermore i know they create (they do in europe for sure) these sites to trap them. What other sites to you think they use as traps and front. You guys need to wake up about this stuff, its easier to track people on the net than it is in real life. YOU ALWAYS LEAVE A TRAIL that you can never get rid of.

Yes I agree with you fully lancer. Better watch that cuboard next time your passing as they could leap out and get you, according to your last few scentences :D

But more seriously, they do set-up traps for peadophiles on the internet, in Europe and I bet in the US / other countries as well. They can monitor specific servers but it would be done for a reason (e.g catching paedophiles) and not on a random whim as that would be open to critisim / outcry.

fk you man they're everywhere *whispers* they're watching me now! :)

Thats what makes me laugh when people go on about identity cards in the UK how the government will suddenly know all about us, I mean they probably know almost everyting thats worth knowing anyway. They know how much we all earn, what cars we driver, where we work, what threatment we have had under the NHS etc etc etc...

exactly it's just getting a greater grip, also the cards will be faked anyhow by people trying to get into the country.

Ah but they will be secure apparently. Personally I think anything which involves the government and IT won't work. They have spent millions on a system for GP's, but not many GP's use the system 'cause its too complex!

Did anyone watch that Peter Jennings show last night? I completely forgot about it. Maybe I will look for a torrent or something (doubtful though).

Yes we need to do away with all forms of "looking" "trying" "trapping" to find bad people and "just live as free" happy people without the worries about who is where and what they are doing. Ok here is the plan we tell all the bad people to please let the police know where they are and what they are doing everyday. So than all is well no problems now we can go back to our happy lives. Yes its all "Bush"s fault again no wait it is "9/11" lolol get a grip this has been a long time in the works and I am all for it. 100% like I said if your not the ones on the kiddie porn sites or the ones planning the next 9/11 then you should be happy that "they" are trying to find ways to get these "people" no matter how they do it.
