getting rid of that damned win logo

does anyone know how to get rid of the damned animated flag logo in the top right corner of explorer? it appears in IE, explorer, etc, just below the X. i remember when i was using 98se, i had a japanese app that got rid of it, and it made the bar it formerly occupied slightly thinner, which was nice, but the main attraction was the dissapearance of the eyesore.
