FTP / Virtual Directory / IIS

(this will proberly be my 3rd post with no replies but here goes...)

I'm currently setting up an FTP site using IIS on a Windows 2000 Server machine. I am creating virtual directories pointing to shares on other servers and they all seem fine.

The problem is when I actully ftp to the site these virtual directories do not show, perfoming an dir (or LS) does not show any contents in the site. Yet if I 'cd' to the name of the virtual directory I have created it will enter the folder as if it does exsist. This isn't a massive issue for me since access to this FTP is going to be scripted from several sun systems, but I just wondered if this was a issue or a feature? Has anyone with a little more knowledge of IIS then me aware why this is done?

Come on people don't let this be my 3rd no replied to post!!!

Hi Pete,

That's by M$ design... hahah! But seriously. If you create "fake" folders with the same names as your "virtual directory" in your FTP root users can select those, and will end up in your "virtual directories".

Hope that helps.

With kind regards,

Thanks for the reply Willem.

It's just setteled my mind as to why this was happening. From a security point of view it's pretty good because unless the user knows the specific virtual folder name they can't enter it.

Thanks Again.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
