From networking to stand-alone

I've configured XP Professional on a workstation. Is works perfect, but I will change this workstation into a stand-alone computer with connection to internet. I have a cable-modem for my internet-connection.
I have tried to disable the current workstation-connection, but I cannot solve the problem.
Can somebody tell me how I must configure my workstation so that I can use that computer as stand-alone?

Is this a Ethernet modem or a USB modem?

If ethernet, just plug the ethernet cable into the back of the cable modem, and set your NIC's IP & DNS to obtain automatically (Most cable providers more than likely use DCHP to assign IPs)

If USB, USB broadband modems are terrible, return it and buy a ethernet one.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
