Freezing and Monitor blackout

I have a sony laptop (PCG-FXA49) I am running XP PRO (SP1) fully updated.. What happens is either when my computer first loads, been on along time (2days+), or i am running alot of stuff, my computer will lock up and freeze or my monitor will (turn off) and when i move the mouse it will not turn back on but the computer is still running it is fine.

Sounds like two things.
For the monitor go to control panel/power options/power schemes & change the time for the monitor in there.

As for the freezing you will probably have to do a trial & error thingy till you find what is cauasing it.

have you ever reformated that thing? sony laptops come with tons of background apps running.

also, ever updated the bios?

OK I updated my bios and tweaked some of the power setting and my laptop has gone 24hrs downloading a lil over 1mb/s so, so far your solutions seem to work. thx. Ill post again if the problem occurs again. Again thx -Supp
