Ok this is an extremely long shot, but does anyone know of any free tools to repair corrupt word files.

I will be very very suprised if there are any!

You could try Bad Copy. I have used it to recover stuff from disks and it has worked.

I think Microsoft Office XP has it built into the programs. I remember opening a corrupt Excel spreadsheet with Office XP. Excel 2002 repaired it and offered me to save it as a different name and location. But if you have older versions of Office, you can try third party programs that will do just that.

Yah, I know that Word XP gives you that ability. It's built-in.

Well it's a bit of a strange one, the document will open and start loading all the pages. But when it gets to a particular page it just stalls and locks Word up, so Word doesn't get a change to give me the option to repair the file.

I'm using Word 2002/XP btw.

NegativeFactor, could you attach the document here if it is not of to much value the data that is in it, and ill see if OpenOffice can open it.
