Free save Word doc in pdf format

I am looking for a free program that can save a word document in pdf format. Is there a good one out there?

OpenOffice.org can directly save documents as PDF files. It's a free open-source Office suite that contains apps comparable to Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc. It can also open and save files in the Microsoft Office formats. Give it a try. See if you like it.

If you're looking for a standalone PDF converter, try searching Google for "Free PDF writer" It came up with a lot of results, but I can't recommend any particular one, since I've never used any of them.

I have office XP on my computer now. Will it mess that up if I onstall Openoffice?

No, both can be installed on the same machine.
Just make sure you don't associate .doc, .xls and .ppt files with OpenOffice.org during setup unless you want it to open these files.
