I am looking for a free program that can save a word document in pdf format. Is there a good one out there?

OpenOffice.org can directly save documents as PDF files. It's a free open-source Office suite that contains apps comparable to Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc. It can also open and save files in the Microsoft Office formats. Give it a try. See if you like it. :)

If you're looking for a standalone PDF converter, try searching Google for "Free PDF writer" It came up with a lot of results, but I can't recommend any particular one, since I've never used any of them.

I have office XP on my computer now. Will it mess that up if I onstall Openoffice?

No, both can be installed on the same machine. :)
Just make sure you don't associate .doc, .xls and .ppt files with OpenOffice.org during setup unless you want it to open these files.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
