Formatting a laptop

Hey

Is it any different than formatting a desktop? Can I use the recovery cds if I mess something up during the format?

Thanks

Depending on the brand there may be a small hidden partition installed by the manufacturer. But if you're sure you won't need it. fdisk&format as normal.

Installation will perform equally well on laptop as on a desktop PC

By "recovery CD's" do you mean the discs that came with your laptop?.
If so and they're the OS you want then yes. If not then no.;)

It has XP Pro right now and so do the recovery cds (return the computer to factory condition).

I want to format to XP Pro but lets say something goes wrong during the format and the hard drive is messed up, can I put in the recovery cds and return the computer to factory condition?

btw, Im not gonna fdisk it, Im going to use the format on the xp disc.

Yup, I see no reason why not. Make the CD bootable and it'll setup automatically. Regardless of the state of your previous installation, you can choose to wipe it and install afresh. Hope this helps. ;)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
