Flash Player Problems

Hi There...

I've just discovered that my girlfriend's PC won't play embedded videos from the likes of gametrailers.com, youtube.com, etc.

The site will ask for the AcitveX control to be installed, but upon choosing to install it, nothing happens. Further visits to the page results in the same behaviour - the site acts as if it isn't installed at all.

I've tried uninstalling IE7 and then reinstalling it.

I've tried using the Flash Player uninstaller from the Adobe website, then reinstalling it, all with reboots in between, but still no change.

Not really sure where to turn.

I can download the videos just fine, and play them in Windows Media Player.

Any idea what the problem is, or what things I can try to get it all working again, other than doing a full reinstall?

Oh, it's on XP btw.

Thanks in advance.

Some time ago I couldn't play these video's either. Solution: I reinstalled java and everything is working again.

the problem i found was a missing registry item {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}
if you go to this site http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
then download the Windows Flash Player 9 ActiveX control content debugger (for IE) (EXE, 1.22 MB) run the installation & it will put this missing registry item in.

That worked for me last nite. I had the same problem.

Hi There...

I've tried both solutions you guys suggested, but I'm still in the same position.

Uninstalled then reinstalled Java, no change.

Ran the debugger from the Adobe site, no change.

Any other ideas?

Hi There...

It seems that this has just sorted itself out - tried 2 users on the PC, and was getting the same results. The original first user (third one I tried) on the PC worked once Flash had installed. Subsequent attempts on the other 2 users then worked.

Odd. Very odd...

I solved this problem for myself earlier today. What I did was this...

close ie7
go to c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash
double-click flashutil9b.exe
upgrade the flash player (though nothing actually updates)
restart computer

All flash videos work fine now.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
