i have been using zonealarm 4.5, is that still a good option or should i switch to something else?

It really just boils down to personal preference. You could check out Enyo's suggestions in http://www.ntfs.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91
I've used ZAPro for quite a while now, even after testing various other firewall programs.
