Faster - mobo IDE port or Promise card?

Does anyone know if it is better (faster) to connect your hard drives to an external Promise ATA100 card? or the mobo Ultra ATA 100 IDE ports. Is there any difference?

I have heard that the Promise connection would be faster because it is a SCSI card?

Probably bench marking would be the thing to do but if someone has already proven it why reinvent the wheel.

Any ideas?

I'd of said they run the same, if they both support UDMA100, then UDMA100 is the max your gonna get, or am i being too obvious!! lol :)

Anyway, I've just got myself the Promise ATA133 card, to slap into my rig. I'll let you know what happens if you like.

Yes, thanks, let me know.

I guess a question that would go along with this, would the system be faster overall if you only had one device on each IDE port and they were all masters.

The names are misleading (Master / Slave), there's no difference in speed.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
