external cd burner problem

My bro has an old sony external cd burner ( spressa ) and when he tries to put it in windows (xp) it reconizes the drive, but Nero or the program that came with it back in the day. Sony.com says it should reconize it by windows and it does just none of the software does.. any ideas on what to do?

Older verdsions of nero will not work in XP.
Try burnatonce (freeware) & see if that will pick the cd rom up.

it was with nero 5.5 i think, so not that old
