today i realized all my items were listed from Z-A by default. Everything i open is in that order, regardless of what my last prefrences were. its gets kinda annoying in winamp, starting out in the w sextion. is there any way to fix this back to A-Z format?

Open Windows Explorer and left-click the gray box containing the word 'Name'. This will reverse the sort order.
You may also want to select Tools | Folder Options. Click on the View tab and click the button labelled "Like Current Folder" to change the sort order for all folders.

Does the problem occur in Explorer or in open/save dialogs? If it is in open/save dialogs you can get a regfile from Doug Knox to restore the default sort order.
