I just put a system together
Xp 1800+
ecs k7s5a
pny gf3 ti200
512 pny ddr
Phillips acustic edge
maxtor 80gig ATA133
antec 400 watt PS
Xp Pro

when I boot and launch IE for instance it come up fine, but if want another IE window it will hang and take from like 1 minute to anywhere around 10 minutes.
If I just try to open "My Computer" I get the time thing and completely locks and I most of the time have to reboot from Task Manager.
I reinstalled a few times and downloaded all critical updates a few times as well.
I am going to try different detonators but I really don't think that's the problem.
Any ideas?

reseat all your cables, try different PCI slots and the like?

i don't now, i would say the drivers for you pci bus or ide controller are farting. are all your drives posting during boot up?

Are you networked or on DSL? There's a feature that looks for scheduled tasks over the network that's caused system delays like you describe for some folks. If yes to the question, do a search in the networking forum on how to turn it off.

Hey, I am on a small home network and never even thought that it would causing this.
Thanks for your help I'm gonna check it out

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
