so yeah. i open cd rom, explorer crashes, i exit steam, explorer crashes. i do the most random things and explorer crashes. im on sp1 still since i've heard of all the flaws and junk in sp2. i have NO idea what does this..i've formated multiple times, nothing. anyone know anything?

could try running "sfc /scannow" at the command prompt
Although I would strongly recommend SP2, it contains a huge number of security fixes and other updates and the vast majority of users (particularly on this forum) have had no problems with it. Certainly wasn't the amount of problems with it that SP1 had!
