Ethernet Card - How To Check It?

I have an ethernet card. how do i know if this is working? how do i check it? can you ping your own ethernet card?

does the card have an IP address assigned to it, in which case you can do
ping ip.address

also in WinXP go to the Control Panel and then Network and View Connections, it should then list all the network connections availible on your machine

put it on a network and try to ping another computer through it 🙂

if it replys it will tell you if your ethernet card is working or not

Pinging the local loopback (127.0.0.1) will tell you of the PROTOCOLS are functioning properly on the computer...not the physical card. Pinging your own IP address will tell you if the card is functioning properly.

Silly question - do the lights come on when you cable it up?

it does light but it doesn't blink. i did ping the ip address and it replied so it works.
