Essential to install SP1?

My harddisk is formatted and everything is fresh on the disk. Is it essential to install XP SP1? The technical service of my computer service shop told me not to update.

I would if you spend a lot of time on line
& if you want to prevent issues from arising

Fix it before it fails



the best way to install SP1 is to slip stream it to your XP CD

my windows update keeps bringing it up and asking me to install it but i am trying to keep away from it until i know if its right for my system

Well, I installed SP1 today. Of course I backed up my system before doing so. So far everything is working fine. I will be checking out the links you guys gave in the above. Thanks.
