i just love how these Intel people always talk about "reality" or "truth", but never seem to have any facts to back up their drivel.
i read a LOT, probably more than I should, about tech and such, and I can't ever remember reading a review or comparison that cast any doubt on the quality and performance of an AMD since about ten years ago when AMD was selling chips that needed their own refrigeration unit to prevent a meltdown.
I don't pretend to know EVERYTHING, quite the contrary, but until someone can tell me why I should buy a Pentium, and back it up with facts or at least cite a reliable source i am sticking by AMD all the way.

All right below are some facts:
PC World prices correct for today😛entium 4 1.7....£199.99 inc.vat.
Athlon xp1800£229.99 inc vat.
Athlon xp1900£259.99 inc vat.
The xp1800 operates at 1.533ghz,the xp1900 operatates at 1.6ghz,so this is a pretty good average.
I know exactly what your going to say "the amd`s run faster than the pentiums"wrong,the ram operates faster,not the processor.And the ram is more expensive for the amd than the pentium,that is if you discount the new pentiums which also have faster ram.
In light of these facts,all i can ask is "what exactly are you saving,and how much have you convinced yourselves that pentium owners are being ripped off?
Maybe you just need to feel we are being ripped off to make yourselves feel better,i dont know.All i know is the argument is stupid,as i said in my first post,the best system is the one your using now.

Maybe for Scottish folk, but where I am I can walk down the street and get an Athlon XP 1800 for $289 Canadian, whereas the comparable P4 is $349.
Now, keep in mind, that is walking into the store.
If I order online from the states, I can get an Athlon Xp 1800 for the same price as a Pentium 3 933!.

some people do more with their computers than send jokes via e-mail and porn-surf. Try this: create a fully rendered high poly 3d image in Bryce and then do a full 360 degree rotation in real time. No difference? Not only will the AMD processor
blow Intel out of the water in such applications, but the extra 2 or 3 hundred MHz will mean less work for the GPU and therefore less lag.

All I have to add to this arguement is this... the majority of people posting with problems are AMD users!
The Intel V AMD war will NEVER end, its like football fans, always hating the other team.
You get what you can afford, be it AMD or Intel, I just know from my own personal experience that Intel make a much more reliable CPU than AMD. -- thats fact cos I've actually used both AMD & Intel.. If VIA could suss out a decent chipset, reliability might get better for AMD. If Intel stayed with rambus they would of lost the CPU crown. I wanna know who thought of the AMD XP namings.. if I had a penny for the amount of people that think an AMD XP1.6 is 1.6Ghz! I think XP must be the in-word at the moment, everything gets XP added to the name now!, and it doesnt always refer to WindowsXP either!

erm, just one point...everyone in the uk knows that PC World are a complete ripoff right? I would NEVER goto PC World looking for computer compenents, they always manage to add about 15-20% on top of other retailers. They are fine for Mr&Mrs Normal looking for a nice complete PC but for anyone that knows a little about systems..I'm sure they woud have the sense to go elsewhere.
I used to be very Pro Intel cos I run Cubase on my Machine for making music and was always worried about it not being Stable with AMD. Decided to take the plunge from a p3 800 up to an Athlon xp 1600 and havent looked back since. If anything, cubase is MORE stable with my AMD and my PC runs like a dream. This is all the evidence I need, I'm not saying it's irreputible proof to anyone else... my 2 pence worth
