error downloading codec ???

I have been receiving the following "error downloading codec" in Windows Media Player while trying to play some "avi" files. Some of my avi files will play but most won't. Microsoft knowledge base sites errors close to this but does not address this particular error. Any thoughts will be appreciated

There's a good chance that the AVI files you are trying to open have been coded using the Divx compression, you can get the codecs at Divx.com - you can still use Media Player to open the files

Make sure you just install the codecs aswell, don't bother with the DivX player/viewer/whatever-its-called.
