Normally, I leave my computer on extended periods of time (weeks), but through this time I did not make any system-wide changes (drivers, updates, etc). I turned my computer off normally,
it was a safe shutdown, earlier today. Then, two hours ago I turned it back on, it appeared to start up as normal, even with my custom boot screen and all of that. When Windows first starts, I get the following message window:
services.exe - Entry Point Not Found
-----------------------------------------------
The procedure entry point_resetstkoflw could not be loaded in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll
Then, I click OK. Afterwards, this window pops up:
lsass.exe - Entry Point Not Found
-----------------------------------------------
The procedure entry point_resetstkoflw could not be loaded in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll
I am on Knoppix right now, posting this. I would prefer to avoid formatting, even though that is the 100% fix for everything. I ran chkdsk 3 times on C: after inserting the Windows XP Pro cd into the drive, and going into the Recovery Console, which was just DOS. Errors were found on the first try, but I ran it twice more with /p /r. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My system specs (if needed) are below.
Windows XP Professional SP1
Direct-X 9.0a
Pentium 4 1.9ghz 256kb cache
350 Watt ATX psu
Tyan SS2266 motherboard running latest VIA drivers
GeForce4Ti4400 128mb video card
80gb maxtor - master divided into 20gb (C and 60gb (D partitions
120gb maxtor - slave(E
Soundblaster X-Gamer 5.1 sound card
LinkSys NIC
Generic DVD-Rom
Generic Lite-On CD-RW
