Enquiry re 56k modem settings

I am unfortunately stuck with 56k dial up modem because of where I live however my enquiry concerns the settings and I just need some advice please.

Is it best to set the port speed at maximum which is shown as 921600 or should I leave it at my present setting of 57600. I have tried it at both settings but it does not seem to make much difference. Thanks in advance for your help.

You shouldn't need to adjust the default setting for the port.
