Email Problem

Starting a couple weeks ago I started having issues receiving my emails in a timely manner. I am able to send and receive...but I usually only get 1 or 2 new messages when I have 10 new ones.

Relevant Information:
1. I can receive/send emails (process is unreliable, using pop).
2. It seems to happen in outlook and thunderbird.
3. Others aren't having same problem but seem to be using same configurations and mail server.
4. Get error "The operation timed out waiting for a response from the (pop) recieving server"
4. When it does work its very slow even with a fast connection to internet.

Has anyone had this problem before? I tried setting up a VPN but that didn't change anything.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

are you on dial up or broadband??
Have tried you delete the email account info... then recreate it??

I am connecting through a cable modem and I have deleted it and recreated it several times.

fixed I think.

I think I solved it. If anyone cares, it seems that I had a corrupted email message on the server. How it got there I don't know. I saw some posts in other forums about it so I used webaccess and noticed a few messages that were 21 days old.

This was a red flag cause it should have been downloaded by Outlook. After deleting some of the outliers, thunderbird was able to download the rest of my messages uneventfully.

Yeah... my wife had the same problem last week when she tried to get her email. Furtunately there is web access for her email so I went in and foudn some spam email was jamming the email account. I deleted it and voila, all is fine now.
