Hey guys, remember I wanted an Xbox not long ago? (trading post)
Well I found one on Ebay yesterday "buy it now" for £40!!
Its even a special edition translucent green one.

The only problem is that the DVD drive is on its way out, thinkin of buying a
philips one to replace it. Anybody know how well the philips ones work?
I heard samsung provide the most compatiblity but they're around £50.

Anyway, check it out for yourself:)

www.whitedog.co.uk has em for £35...

It won't come with any face place tho, so keep the faulty one and you can build yourself a good xbox.

The damaged one I had also lost its screws and rubber feet and I picked em up here:

That place was a bit of a pain to buy from, I tried all their payment methods and failed. I got home from work and they rang me and we organised a paypal transfer, so might be worth ringing them or sending an e-mail, it did look a bit shady but they came through for me... they have all kinds of replacements, so just remember that if your xbox breaks, all is not lost.

Are Thompson DVD drives compatible with most CD & DVD formats?
I think I should go with a Phillips.
Can I get a second opinion?

I am not gonna crack open my xbox to see which I have :)

Actually....If anybody has a spare Xbox drive lying about, let me know!:D

I think I have Thompson but have never had any problems, no need for me ot use CDR in it either really.

I will paint you a "hypothetical" picture, since some could suspect my following comments aren't approved by Micro$oft :)

If I were to "hypothetically" alter, my XBOX, I would put a 160GB or more hard drive in it.

If I were to "hypothetically" modify my DVD-Rom, I would use nothing but Samsung. I have "hypothetically" tried cheaper alternatives, and have had mixed success. The XBOX is "hypothetically" picky about the hardware you install.

"Hypothetically", good luck

Mr brother has a Samsung one in his but its not modified.
I'll try and swap him for a new thompson one. ;)

Wow, is your broadband really 512k? I get 4.2mbps, hehe

Xboxs should all be dirt cheap by now. How much money do you really save after the money you to spend on the DVD drive and the time you have to waste?

I would use a CD/DVD cleaner disc on it first. It sounds like he used it a bit and has never cleaned the drive. My DVD player started to give me that "can not read disk" error. I cleaned it a couple of times and it works great again. Do a clean before ya crack it open. Just to be on the safe side. :D

I might try that, it worked for my mate!
This drive seems pretty gone though, won't read anything!
£15 for a new thompson DVD drive on Ebay!

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
