DVI or VGA?

as soemone using a three head up 19" setup with every possible permutation of TFT/CRT/DVI/VGA I can only say.... yes! I agree in principle, although somehow I seem to detect a different "luminosity" and colour temperature varying from VGA to DVI is all I would say. Remember this is direct live comparison - side by side in action - so should be accurate. I simply cannot justify the expense involved in going above 19" for the higher res.
Possible. As I said, I've never actually used this display with a VGA connector, so I don't know if there's a difference. You're probably right though.

Oh yeah and NetRyder - interesting about the leads - given Dells dominance in other ways this could be a brand tip. Lord - can you confirm if your UK shipment came with BOTH leads? Or at least DID come with DVI? (Yeah I know may not be relevant to poster, but helpful to forum to have info on this thread)
Yeah, it came with VGA, DVI, power and USB cables (since the 1704FPT has a built-in 4 port USB 2.0 hub). :)

European panels that ship with a DVI cable cost more due to an import tax being levied by the EU. My dell came with both cables.

Also - higher res is one of those things that you dont see a need for if you cant use it - but when you do and you get used to it you wonder how you ever did without.

so your Dell is American? Like your totally tax free 19" CRT, right?

I remain to be convinced of your statement on what you see with DVI, but then I neither run to the giddy heights of 21" and it's resolutions, nor your GFX generation, nor the games you play (because I do not have the GFX, mebbe?) so that may change....

Everything from dell is american - if you buy inthe EU though it comes via Ireland and costs more due to that silly EU tax on DVI devices...

The only thing stopping you get higher resolutions is the displays themselves - the 9800/9700 you have will easily do 1600x1200 if you asked it to :)

... you seriously thought I did not know that? :nervous:

One thing I find handy about DVI is that on resolution changes the screen refits itself properly, I'm assuming that's a DVI feature and not specific to my NEC 1970GX because I'v had to use the VGA cable before and the self adjusting bails on me. Even though you don't want an LCD to get away from it's native resolution, it's definately handy to have boot error and bios screens properly adjusted without having to spend time trying to remember how your monitors menu buttons work!

Incidently my NEC came with both VGA and DVI cables (Canada here) and my video card came with two VGA adapters. I would think it pretty silly for a company to ship a dual DVI card without at least one VGA adapter for a good few years to come, but then it blows my mind when USB printers don't come with a USB cable!

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
