Hi guys

got a prob
built a client an upgrade from his old machine.
From the old machine the DVD rom : Pioneer DVD-A02R

Anyway, I installed XP fresh on the new HD via the standard CDrom drive i also took from that machine.

No Problems

Then once i got into windows, i noticed the DVDrom would not show in Explorer.
I then rebooted and noticed the cdrom remained but the DVDrom still was not there.
BIOS detects the drive fine.

Whats even more strange is that when i go to device manager and right click>scan for hardware changes... the DVD popsup and i can use it fine.

Reboot, and its gone again.
This happens always, when i want to use it, i have to do the scan hardware changes prodecure... and its bloody annoying

anyone got any solutions? ALL windowsupdate patches are in, via 4-in-1 are in, motherboard is the latest bios: MSI M6340M Version 5.0.

Thanks

hmm, odd..are there any firmware updates for the dvdrom? and have you tried switching it's primary/secondary, Slave/master relationship to see if that helps?

what you can also do is try replacing the ide cable or switch which position on the cable the drive is on if its a dual cable. there may be a "leak" in the ide cable. hope that helps.

thanks for the feedback...

It was slave before, moved it to master
not tried IDE1 yet but i dont think thats needed.

Cable... i used the old cable as it was fine in the old machine, but anyway, i tried a new one same thing.

It DOES work fine in win98.

firmware: latest one.

Thats odd..
I still dont have DVDrom on startup but when my writer was found by XP, it automatically enabled the DVD too...until i rebooted.

I feel its somethign to do with PnP

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
