DVD software

I wish to convert some of my dvd's to vcd's or svcd,i recently purphased Dup-dvd and it works but it takes so long,2 1/2 hrs for a 1 hour film.Is the normal or can anyone reccomend any software to try,which is quicker/better.Many thanks.
